FirmWare Updates

Rich
Is it my imagination or does loading a new version of firmware reset to default or change in some way some of the settings I have programmed in?  Why do setting change after a new firmware load? If this is to be expected can I save the configuration and then reload my saved configuration after updating the firmware?

Yes, you can save the configuration using the firmware utility.  I
have not noticed many config changes.  In the past (many releases ago)
a few items changed on occasion, but I haven't noticed anything like
that for quite a while.

Re: FirmWare Updates

Richard Davis-5
On this subject I offer the following:

Just today, I attempted to save my K3 configuration using a fresh newly
downloaded K3 Utility.  The "save configuration" option failed with the
following notice:

+--------------------------------
|  Window title:  POWER ON BANNER ERROR
|
|   Error Msg:  K3 Get command failed to return the expected response |
  |   after several attempts.
+--------------------------------

Does this look familiar to any one?

I am moving up from MCU 2.46/FPF0.02/DSP1_1.92    ...yeah, I
know--ancient history.  :-)

Is it possible that the K3 Utility assumes it will only be used to
update from some MCU version more recent that 2.46?  ...say the first
one that introduces the 'power on banner' feature?

Since I could not get a backup of the existing configuration, I did not
attempt to do an upgrade.

Thoughts appreciated,

Richard

Re: FirmWare Updates

Don Wilhelm-4
Richard,

Back up to an older K3Utility if you can find it and then save the
configuration.
After that is done, load the new K3Utility and proceed to update the
firmware.

If you cannot locate the older K3Utility, I would suggest that you just
update the firmware.  The probability that a new firmware load will
change the configuration is low.  We do occasionally hear of isolated
instances where it *appears* as though a change has occurred, but I do
not recall that such changes have been substantiated and repeatable.

The older firmware you were using did not have a banner so it could not
be saved. You could probably save your config using an older version of
the utility, then use a newer version to update your rig and restore the
configuration.

The message indicates that garbled responses are received forom the
commands used to read EEPROM.

Try 38400 bps or a different cable. I doubt that an older K3 Utility
will change this

Save config is important before EEINIT but not normally necessary for
firmeware updates.
The window caption is wrong, I'll fix that

The banner storage area is not saved or restored nor affected by EEiNIT.

Same for CW memories
