Firmware 4.17 anomaly

Forrest
I had contacted support at Elecraft a short while back about losing my right
channel of audio.  I was certain that I had only placed stereo 1/8 inch
plugs into my back panel speaker jack, but it did sound like I might have
somehow damaged an audio IC.  As my headphone jack on the back and front
panel still had 2 channels of audio, getting the audio board fixed was a low
priority.

About a week that, I discovered that my Config:Spkrs setting was set to 1.
After changing it back to 2, I had my missing right channel.  Okay.  That's
fine, I could have set it mistakenly.

Only... today I was using the rig and heard a relay click and the right
audio channel dropped out.  I check the Config setting and sure enough, it
was set back to 1.  This had happened a couple of times since the original
discovery where it was mysteriously set to 1 but this is the first time I
could blame it on the rig spontaneously changing it.

I have placed a few macros in my P3 with the P3 Utility but otherwise do not
use the macros in the K3 Utility and very seldom use the PF1 and PF2
buttons, which have macros in them.

Anybody else experience this or have a fix?

Re: Firmware 4.17 anomaly

I'm currently trying to run down a similar (?) audio problem.  I
upgraded software (4.14) and then set up for SS CW.  It seemed that I
had reduced audio on the right channel.  After the contest I started
setting up for SS SSB and I'm not TX in SSB, unless I whistle and then I
get a bit of TX.  I reloaded the previous setup and find I still have
the problem.  I seem to have very low TX and no monitor audio.  Still
trouble shooting.  I suspect it is something I did, but your story has
my attention.

Re: Firmware 4.17 anomaly

4.17 is in recall status, with some number of issues reported by beta
testers.  There did seem to be a bit of tip-of-the-iceberg to it all.
4.18 or whatever surfaces is not out yet.

Right Speaker Audio

KK7P
In reply to this post by Forrest
If the K3 detects it is drawing too much current in receive mode, it
disconnects the right speaker channel to help prevent damage.  That is
the relay you heard click.  It also sets SPKRS=1 to indicate it has
disconnected the right channel speaker.  The most common cause of
over-current in receive mode is the speaker amplifier driving a short of
some kind.
