I would like to see a command that would provide a simple direct band
change. Right now the K3 'knows' the last frequency and mode used on each band, tap BAND UP or DOWN and the K3 returns to the last used freq and mode on the selected band. Programatically there are two ways to change bands now: 1) Issue "FA" or "FB" which would override the last used frequency 2) Issue a series of UP / DOWN taps to the BAND switch I'm writing some code and would like to be able to return the K3 to it's initial state on each band when the application is finished. #1 won't do it and #2 is slow (and noisy!). This should be pretty low on the todo list, but I'd like to see get it on the list! Up/Down taps to the bandswitch are problematic because users can remove
bands from the rotation. See firmware notes on MCU 2.58 (Mapping out selected bands). My bandswitch doesn't take me through 60 meters, for example. I think it's up to the software developer to store the last used frequency, mode etc. on each band so that you can restore them. The command set provides everything you need to do that. The K3's habit of restoring frequency and mode is more of a hindrance than a help for logging programs, which often end up fighting it. I considered this when I was writing KComm but I decided it was not worth the trouble. Half the time going to the frequency you last used on a band is not what you want. If there is a station you are interested in on one band and you want to listen on another and then return back to it, the solution to that in KComm is to create a "shortcut" for that frequency, which you can delete when you have finished with it.

Therefore, the only way to change bands is to "Tap" the BAND key and read/save the state for each band. This is complicated by how the user has setup the BAND IN/OUT sequence. None of this a a major problem, but stepping through the bands by tapping BAND UP or DOWN is slow. ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
