Hi
current beta firmware 4.51 did show great improvements in WPX CW contest. When will it be final? or is there any issue that will be added/changed in the final version? -- /*73 de*/ /*Wolfgang DK9VZ*/ [hidden email] <mailto:[hidden email]> ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Wolfgang,
If by "final" you are referring to the number 4.51 - that number is final right now - if there are any changes made, the number will be changed. If the beta test is successful, that same version will be declared release level - but the code3 will be unchanged. So, bottom line, if you are having success with 4.51, continue to use it. 73, Don W3FPR On 6/26/2012 3:30 AM, Wolfgang -DK9VZ- wrote: > Hi > > current beta firmware 4.51 did show great improvements in WPX CW contest. > When will it be final? > or is there any issue that will be added/changed in the final version? > ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

The beta test of 4.51 was successful and it will be changed to final on the web site shortly. Feel free to download the zipped beta files and install them. The final version is exactly the same.

I'm at work, and I don't want to forget, so let me ask this: Do you post
an announcement for the release? Last time I think I completely missed it and was surprised when my K3 updated (and I've only had it for a few months!) Eric,
I thought that there were issues with the CW decoder w/4.51. CW decoder worked fine for me on field day. and since I still have
the CW training wheels on, I sure needed the help. CW decode THR at 3 and speed at 30-90 (I think what ever is the higher setting) this decoded fine with speeds well below 30. cant remember exact AGC settings but fairly high threshold for CW. I do tend to set AF gain to one level and use rf gain for good listening level this also helps the cw decoder by keeping noise down. FYI - Version 4.51 - The CW Decode/CWT function on my sn# 705 is mostly non-functional no matter what I set the threshold to. I mostly use the CWT for zero beat or to see how far off others are calling (DX) - that still works on the stronger sigs but not on weak ones.

*Strange indeed. #679 decoded fine this morning. The usual missing
characters due to decoding 'hand sent' cw but I don't see any great drop in decode capability here. Having said that, I do understand the vagaries of a machine trying to decode a 'human' hand generated cw and at times the decode function in the past has been pretty useless. When decoding in a contest where much is sent (canned/recorded) by computer file, the decode has worked well. My CW is so bad it stuggles to decode my tx on the display...:-( 73 Gary * On 1 July 2012 10:29, Gill W4RYW <[hidden email]> wrote: > FYI - Version 4.51 - The CW Decode/CWT function on my sn# 705 is mostly > non-functional no matter what I set the threshold to. My CW Decoder is no longer functioning either since I updated the firmware. Hopefully this is addressed soon. I tend to use it as an aid when I start drifting in a qso or can't keep up with the sending station.

Mine doesn't work either since the update.
Tried all the THR combinations with a strong signal but nothing. Yes, I hope it's fixed as well. Since I copy OK by ear at reasonable
speeds I don't need it, but it's a function that the is supposed to work, did previously, and doesn't now. 73, Scott, N9AA On 7/10/12 8:34 PM, ac8jd wrote: > My CW Decoder is no longer functioning either since I updated the firmware. > Hopefully this is addressed soon. I believe that Wayne and team are looking at this.
There are ways to get it to work by reducing RF but it certainly does not work as well as it did. Still lowering the RF gain allows you to decode stronger signals but then lower signals you may lose out on. Eric indicated in a previous post that Elecraft were aware of the decoding
problem and that it would be fixed in a future upgrade. It seemed that for many people the improvement to AGC out weighs the loss of decoding. Perhaps with the note explaining what the update accomplished a warning about this problem could be inserted. 73 Doug EI2CN -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Gary Gregory Sent: 11 July 2012 03:53 To: ac8jd Cc: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Firmware final? *Strange, I was using mine this morning. Also, there is nothing to prevent one from going back to 4.48 and wait on the improvements to be incorporated in the new release.
I saved a copy of 4.48 in order to do this if necessary. With 4.51, the operation of CWT seems to have changed [possibly in my
mind and not in the radio :-)] The indicator follows band noise somewhat erratically regardless of where I put the CWT threshold which I think is the same as the CW decode threshold. On a signal, it will center and follow the signal as I tune. I used to have it set so only strong noise pulses would make it appear until I was on a signal. I don't know if it is related to the CW decode or not, but I'm wondering if it is just me. I don't use the CW decode feature. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2012 Cal QSO Party 6-7 Oct 2012 - www.cqp.org On 7/11/2012 8:48 AM, Wayne Burdick wrote: > CW decode will be improved in the next release of K3 firmware. > Meanwhile, try using a lower AGC threshold and a narrow filter > bandwidth. > > 73, > Wayne > N6KR ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Hi Fred,
We released 4.51 into the wild because of its important AGC improvements -- couldn't wait on that. Sorry for the inconvenience on CW decode and CWT, both of which will be improved in the next release. I think the CWT is fine. I set the threshold on it so that it just flickers with band noise, and find that at that setting I cans use it to tune signals that are just above the noise on the P3. I don't use the CW decode option. 73, Tom Radio Operator N5GE ARRL Lifetime Member QCWA Lifetime Member On Wed, 11 Jul 2012 17:32:51 -0700, Wayne Burdick <[hidden email]> wrote: >Hi Fred, > >We released 4.51 into the wild because of its important AGC >improvements -- couldn't wait on that.
