Firmware glitch on Xtal Filter selection?

williamsonr
I recently completed my K3 #1318 and updated to the latest firmware.  On another post to this group I recall someone (Dr. Garland?) asking about the same issue I am seeing on my rig.  I have set up xtal filters as follows FL1 - open but assigned to FM (FM filter back ordered) FL2 2.7 kHz, FL3 1.8 kHz, FL4&5 empty.  I have set up the filter receive assignments per mode and the TX filter assignments as per the manual.  Here is what I am experiencing.  Any time I go into the config menu for any changes(and maybe the main menu as well - can't recall) when I come out of the menu the filter auto selection during DSP bandwidth changes acts odd (In SSB mode for sure, I haven't noticed other modes).  i.e. selecting a DSP bandwidth wider than 2.7 kHz now selects the FL1 position which is empty! Receiver goes dead! If I simply press the band up or down button and try this again the rig now performs correctly and ignores FL1 that is not assigned to SSB or CW etc.  All remains well until
 I!
!
go into the Config menu again???

Hi Rodger,
Try selecting the filters using the firmware download utility program. That
fixed those problems for me, and is also much more convenient to use. While
you've got the utility program running, also look at the terminal feature.
It's great for running PSK31 and other data modes with the K3.

Rodger,

If you have already indicated to the firmware that the FM filter is in
the FL1 position (I assume that is what you meant by "assigned toFM"),
it might be a source of your problem.   Go to the CONFIG menu and verify
that FL1 ON is set to 'no'.

When you indicated to the firmware that there is a filter wider than the
2.7 available, it will switch to that filter if you widen the DSP filter
beyond 2.7kHz.

Rodger:

If you haven't resolved this, please save your K3 configuration (using the
save button on the K3 Utility program's "configuration" tab) and attach the
resulting .k3config file in an e-mail to me.  I can look at the filter
configuration you have and make a recommendation.  I'm going to Portland for
a hamfest this weekend, but will be able to look when I return on Sunday.

I suspect that you need to set FL1 "off", or set its bandwidth to zero in
the K3 Utility configure crystal filter page.  I'd recommend using the K3
Utility's crystal filter configuration page to review your settings.

Most of us have something in the FL1 slot so we don't encounter this.  But
it should be possible to configure the rig with an empty FL1 slot.
