I ask this question b4 about this error,
but didn't get or understand any replies I received. So Last time I needed to check/upgrade my firmware, I just used an ftp pgm to download the files and placed them in the C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Elecraft\K3 Firmware directory Then I was able to use the Elecraft K3 Utility to upgrade the firmware. Now we have another beta release, and I would again, like to use the Elecraft K3 Utility to check and upgrade my K3/QRP #4123 HOWEVER....... when I click on the "Check Versions Now" button I get the following text displayed: 16:57:15 K3 Utility Version 1.3.4.3 16:57:15 OS Version 5.1 Build 2600 Windows XP 16:57:35 Opening connection to ftp.elecraft.com 16:57:35 Opening connection to ftp.elecraft.com 16:57:36 InternetFindNextFile completed with error 6: The handle is invalid. 16:57:36 Ready 16:57:36 K3 MCU version 03.91. COM4 RS-232 speed 38400 bps 16:58:19 Opening connection to ftp.elecraft.com 16:58:19 Opening connection to ftp.elecraft.com 16:58:20 InternetFindNextFile completed with error 6: The handle is invalid. 16:58:20 Ready 16:58:21 K3 MCU version 03.91. COM4 RS-232 speed 38400 bps I did click it the 2nd time after the first failure so I got 2 failures listed there. I think it is saying it can log into the elecraft server but somehow can't exchange info with it? here are the clues I have about the problem ==================== I'm running XP home SP3 Installed K3 software Versions are: MCU = 03.91 FPF = 01.09 DSP1 = 02.54 DSP2 = N/A DVR = N/A the available versions show as the same as the installed ones, BUT I think that is because there is some glitch with my connecting with ftp.elecraft.com using the Elecraft K3 Utility V.1.3.4.3 because I can log onto ftp.elecraft.com just fine and use another ftp programs to download the: elecraft/K3/firmware/beta/k3fw3r94.zip file to my computer and place it where ever I wish....... in my directory: C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\Application Data\Elecraft\K3 Firmware I have the following: Microsoft Windows XP [Version 5.1.2600] (C) Copyright 1985-2001 Microsoft Corp. Just like I figured it had to be operator error.
now I know I have to do it differently if I am trying to use beta software, thanks Dick!
