First Problem !

Tom - K5VJZ
Hi K2 owners

I noticed for the first time this weekend during the WAERTTY contest a
clicking sound when tuning the K2  from 14081.89 to 14081.90..... Also
at 14086.89 to 14089.90. This represents a click interval of 5 Khz. I
checked several other 5 Khz intervals and the click is there...I can
detect it in 5 Khz intervals down to the bottom of the 20 meter band...
I can only hear this in the RTTY mode.. I have disabled the DSP to see
if that might be the problem, but I can still hear it. I guess I'm
unsure if the encoder is going out, or it's another problem. Anyone else
have this problem, or have the same results... The frequency might be
different on another k2 ????

Regards
Tom K5VJZ

Tom -

This is a normal artifact of the PLL jumping from one end of its range
to the other as you tune the band.   Nothing to worry about, your
encoder is not failing.  Pretty much all PLL based rigs do this, it's
just more noticeable in some than others.  Usually, signals and band
noise cover it up.  You must have an exceptionally quiet receiving location.

Tom,

Try running CAL PLL again - make certain the bottom cover is in place
and the K2  is warmed up for at least 15 minutes (preferrably for 1/2 hour).

There is alway some possibility that the PLL will not increment exactly
at target on the 5 kHz boundaries, but the effect should be minimal.
