First problem with 1 year old K2/100

John Wiener

I haven't got too far in isolating it but,

I get an intermittent drop in audio...seems like a drop in
sensitivity, too.  Drop outs last a few seconds and seem spaced
completely randomly.
Seems like a loss of RF to the unit.

I have two antennae (the second just installed).  I may have an
intermittent in my G5RV as I get fluctuating SWR on the KAT100.
However, I also see the tuner clatter thru to re-tune after NO change
in freq for the 2nd antenna (within a few min. of the first tuning).

Probably not enough info, but I wanted to check to see if I was
missing anything obvious (read 'stupid').

John,

Do check the antenna - if it has an intermittent, you will hear
something like you described.

To check for an audio only problem, tune in some steady signal (make
certain there is no QSB) and watch the S-meter.  If the S-meter changes
in sync with the change in audio, then the problem is in the RF section
(including the antenna and its cable), but if the audio changes when the
S-meter is steady, you have an audio only problem.

Right now about all we can say is that it is somewhere between the
antenna and the speaker (or headphones), and you will have to narrow it
a bit more before we can comment intelligently.
