It is just this kind of generosity that makes ham radio a great hobby and
Elecraft a great company to do business with. 73, --Ian Ian Kahn, KM4IK Roswell, GA EM74ua [hidden email] K3 #281, P3 #688 On Tue, Apr 3, 2012 at 11:00 AM, Wayne Burdick <[hidden email]> wrote: > Hi Steve, > > I see you're in Eureka, less than a half-day drive from me (Belmont is > just south of SF). I told myself I'd order a K3 if a certain event occurred, and the event
occurred. As an additional incentive, my K2/100 is acting up. Now my question is whether I should wait for a hamfair to order it. Does anyone remember what sorts of "deals" have been historically seen at the hamfairs? There's almost no chance I'm going to wait that long (the closest to me is Seapac in June), but I figure I should still ask. :) -- Hisashi T Fujinaka - [hidden email] BSEE(6/86) + BSChem(3/95) + BAEnglish(8/95) + MSCS(8/03) + $2.50 = latte ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Even with the backlog, I suspect delivery of a KX-3 will be similar to the delays with a 3000 (I know a couple people stuck in queue for the 3000 - I just couldn't talk them out of the "computer game radio"). 73, ... I ordered my K3 at Radiofest March 3. (Happy first month
birthday K3.) I got $100 off list + free shipping as a come on. (And an OK from my wife, KI6SLX.) Depending on how you want to use it, don't forget the FM roofing filter, AM roofing filter, microphone, and USB to RS232 interface. I am not (yet) interested in AM, but I had to order the others in a second order. Well, $100+shipping is like $150, and I'd rather pay that then wait for
my K3. Time for my order! On Tue, 3 Apr 2012, Bill Frantz wrote: > I ordered my K3 at Radiofest March 3. (Happy first month birthday K3.) I got > $100 off list + free shipping as a come on. I have a buddy who is doing all his homework shopping for a rig in the $2000 area. Flex, Eagle, 590, K3 all being considered. FT950 and Icoms have been eliminated. I just sent him this posting from Wayne. Somehow I just have the feeling this might be what pushes him over the edge. Wayne, you will be repaid many times over for your generosity. We will all see to that. You remain my hero. I have run one mobile for over 20 years and it has done nothing but work. The only glitch has been the rcvr preamp relay that has to be cleaned every so often. The IC-730S could be a great way to get started. Add the KXPA100 when it is ready for 100 watts and then the KX3 later. BTW, I have made many SSB and cw contacts at 10 watts or less with my K2 and simple wire antennas. And recently been having a blast with my new KX1 at 4 watts or less. Welcome to the hobby. It's a boat load of fun. 73, George, NC5G |

I would say it depends on what you want to do with your radio. If you
like the idea of a traditional radio format, where you hook cables and interfaces (like the microham) up to the box, you will have more fun with the KX3. The KX3 is obviously a lot more mobile. On the other hand, if you like the idea of doing things in software (e.g. VAC connections to FLDIGI, etc.) then you will have a good time with the Flex. The CW issues are fixed for normal operations (<35WPM non-QSK) and it's a lot of fun to work DX in split pile up. If you are a computer geek and a visual person - this is the radio. Personally, I enjoy experimenting with the new genre of SDR radios (Flex) but I respect the tried and true format for certain situations. (e.g. outfitting a HF contest station) Luckily, I think the resale value for either radio is pretty good. So the risk buying either one is small because if you don't like it, you can sell it without loosing a lot of money. 73's Stu2 W7IY ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Except most computer geeks run linux and flex will get you nowhere. I would prefer kx3 which at least supports linux for updating firmware and there is 3rd party software that allows to control it in k3 compat. mode. I wasn't aware that there was a backlog on the Flex radios.
I ordered a 1500 (QRP) model at the Southwestern Division Convention last September and the delivery driver handed to me within a week. 73 de Jim - AD6CW One of the many waiting for the UPS driver to hand me my KX3 On 4/3/2012 12:16 PM, Joe Subich, W4TV wrote: > > These FLEX you can actually buy today the KX3....who knows and "thems > > that do ain't talking". > > Try to order a FLEX-3000 today and see what the delivery schedule is! > Even with the backlog, I suspect delivery of a KX-3 will be similar to > the delays with a 3000 (I know a couple people stuck in queue for the > 3000 - I just couldn't talk them out of the "computer game radio"). > > 73, > > ...
