Flying with K2

Edward R Cole
I don't have a K2, but I have carried my FT-817 plus a small 35w amp
and mic in my briefcase or carry-on bag with no notice by TSA.  I
also carry a laptop with Lithium battery (no problems).

Several years ago I carried a pelican case with home-made radio
equipment and the only thing I was questioned on was the sealed-acid
(gel) battery.  They didn't want to allow it on the plane, until one
inspector noted my business card attached to the radio indicating my
business was radio communications.  I had mentioned the equipment was
for demo at a conference.  They allowed it because they figured I
needed it for my business trip (I was heading to a ham conference -
which I did not point out).

This was pre-TSA.  I would never attempt to take that home-built
microwave radio on a plane, today.  If I want to have it on a trip I
have to UPS it ahead to my hotel (costing me >$100 each way).  Most
of the time I leave it home.  It was designed specifically to take on trips.
