I'm getting my K3 equipped for SSB and I think a PTT foot switch would be useful. I think a metal rather than plastic unit would be desirable.
Offlist recommendations please. I'll summarize and repost. Thanks Jim ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Joe,
A switch is a switch, is a switch. They all should be electrically the same - either open or closed. The things to look for are physical characteristics that fit your opeation - amount of pressure to make contact, the spring tension to restore it to an on\pen switch position, and other related parameters. There is nothing sacred about either metal or plastic, it is all about effectiveness of the switch action. 73, Don W3FPR . I've been using an earlier version of the Heil FS-3 for over 20 years.
Simple, reliable, and relatively small and unobtrusive. I use a heil foot switch and a heil hand switch. I like having both and sometimes I use VOX but when the dogs bark it is embarrassing. I sometimes get tired of foot stamping so having a hand switch is a nice option. Both are super cheap.

I have been using a Yaesu MD-100 Microphone with stand that incorporates
not one but three push to talk switches. The mic and the PTT switches work perfectly with the K3. Hi Jim,
I'm using a footswitch I bought off eBay from a "tattoo supplies" account or something like that, it cost me $5 plus shipping and does a great job, all I had to do was change the supplied 1/4" jack to a phono plug. It's solid construction and works a treat, it doesn't have to cost a fortune to be workable :) 73, Thomas M0TRN On 15 July 2012 23:30, Jim Miller <[hidden email]> wrote: > I'm getting my K3 equipped for SSB and I think a PTT foot switch would be > useful. I have used a 2 speed sewing machine foot switch for the past 40 years. I used the first switch so I don't have to push very much.
The only thing I have had to do was change the cable twice because they rotted but the switch keeps going and going and... 73, Tim Herrick, KQ8M Charter Member North Coast Contesters [hidden email] AR-Cluster V6 kq8m.no-ip.org User Ports: 23, 7373 with local skimmer, 7374 without local skimmer Server Ports: V6 3607, V4 Active 3605, V4 Passive 3606 -----Original Message----- From: [hidden email] [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Thomas Horsten Sent: Monday, July 16, 2012 4:59 PM To: Jim Miller Cc: [hidden email] Subject: Re: [Elecraft] Foot switch recommendation?
