Ditto... although I don't "love" my K3 yet (I fully expect that I will
in about September, though). 73, Larry N8LP [hidden email] wrote: > But my "other" rig is a K2 and it is NOT for sale ;-) > > Doug,W6JD > _______________________________________________ > Elecraft mailing list > Post to: [hidden email] > You must be a subscriber to post to the list. > Subscriber Info (Addr. My other rig is not for sale and my other, other rig is also not for sale. Poor choice of T-Shirt slogan if you ask me. The difficult bit will introducing them to each other. #885 is still a bit jealous of #3248... How's that for anthropomorphising? vy 73 de toby -- DD5FZ, 4N6FZ (ex dj7mgq, dg5mgq, dd5fz) K2 #885, K2/100 #3248 K3/100 #??? An option that Vic, K2VCO, suggested that I liked better was:
"My other rig is...lonely." I'm not much for anthropomorphizing but I know full well how "things" become part of my mental landscape. Anyone who has felt the deep emotional violation of having had something taken from them in a fire or other catastrophe is made suddenly fully aware of that connection. Human literature is filled with the stories of the effects of things on people's lives; good and bad. It's a strong reminder that the things we collect can rule us, sometimes more than we rule them! But, properly managed, things also have great power to enhance our lives. It's a matter of being very conscious of what we are collecting and how we think about them. Like anything else, the effect is different for different people. Some folks can walk away from the things they have collected with little effect. Others are not so sanguine. Years ago I saw a news film interview of the famous dancer and actor Gene Kelley ("Singing in the Rain") as his Malibu California home burned to the ground. He was standing outside in the darkness with tears streaming down his face. Friends pointed out that the photographs, the Oscar awards and most of his other things he had lost could be replaced. He said they could never be the same. The things he had held in his life for decades were gone forever. Not all the things are physical, of course. When we QSO we exchange ideas and thoughts, not objects. Great operators try to give the other person a pleasant experience and perhaps a smile. It's a thing he won't have to find a place for on a shelf or dust occasionally, but that doesn't make it any less valuable. So, I'll say yes, you'll have to introduce your rigs to each other. Not that they are aware of the other boxes sitting on the table, but because you are aware of them sitting there in your mind, and each one has to find its role there. And you will need to dust them occasionally. Ron AC7AC -----Original Message----- > "My other rig is... For Sale." My other rig is not for sale and my other, other rig is also not for sale. I name mine: KX1: "Squirt" K2: "Clark" [able to leap tall pileups with a single bound] TS-850: "Tubby" [harnesses gravity well to hold the shelf down] FT-847: "Squeaky" [I use him almost totally on VHF/UHF] I will probably get a K3 [OK, wife tells me she *knows* I will]. I think I'll wait and see how the reflector traffic hums on about it from those who get S/N 1-??. Tubby may find a new home when I do spring for it. Probably ought to be thinking about a name, I guess. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2007 CQP Oct 6-7 - www.cqp.org _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. And folks, I *will* have my extra K2/100 SN 4192 available for sale -
like Tom, my SN 00020 will *never* be up for sale. This is a fully upgraded K2 and is fully loaded - including 160 and 60 meter options (with KAF2 rather than the KDSP2). Total value of the unbuilt kits is $1363, and I am asking $1250 shipped within the USA. All calibration and alignment will be performed as a final checkout and CW filters set to your preferences (I can even throw in a microphone if you don't have one). A 90 day workmanship warranty (exclusive of shipping costs) is standard for me, so if you find anything wrong, it will be corrected. Anyone interested please email me direct - and please take the [Elecraft] out of the subject line. 73, Don W3FPR Tom Hammond wrote: > MY 'other-other' rig (TS-950SD) _DEFINITELY IS_ for sale! Jeez if this is the winning slogan then I would hate to see the losing
entries. I haven't been on the reflector long enough to have seen this come up but I'll second the poor choice comment. And some were asking if they got a free one for being in the first K3 run??? Wow, that's all I can say.....
