Funky antenna issue

I am the owner of K1 #1891. The rig has been working flawlessly for the
past month. Today, I built the KAT1 tuner and installed it - it works fine. (Nothing like co-mingling solder fumes with roasting turkey..) I did discover a perplexing issue that I can't seem to resolve. If the antenna is not connected to the rig, the rig does not power up at all. I hooked the K1 to a dummy load to accomplish the "fine tuning", and the same thing happened. Curious, I hooked it up to a coaxial switch, with one lead going to the dummy load and the other to the antenna. When I turned the switch to the dummy load, the rig shut down. I turned it off, switched the lead to the antenna, and no problem whatsoever. I then turned the rig off, disconnected the antenna, and turned it back on. Nothing. Dead. I then reattached the antenna, and the rig fired right up. The power cable is fine-it's not getting jostled when I jockey the antennas. Now I must confess that I had a glass of wine, but not THAT much :-) Any thoughts? And. Happy Thanksgiving, albeit a bit late. A possible .....
Could you have some sort of missing ground situation in that the ground/minus for the rig's 12V supply is ONLY getting to the rig via the coax cable's braid? Yes, I know that's stretching things a bit .... 73! John,
You have an open path for the DC power - somewhere - and the antenna is providing the required grounding path in one manner or another. Since you have just installed the KAT1, the first thing to do is remove it (don't forget to put in the jumper) and see if behavior is restored to normal. Hi Don,
Problem solved! Before opening the rig, I inspected the Power Pole connections and found that one of the negative pole connectors was loose internally and not making contact. I replaced it with a new connector and all is fine. Glad to hear it was that easy. Unfortunately, we very often overlook that sort of thing and do not suspect the inteconnection cables and their associated connectors. That was my first thought as well. Maybe the ground side of the
power jack has some how broken loose in side the rig. If it won't power up with a good power supply and the cable is ok, then I would look inside the rig.
