Subject: [Elecraft] HRD for rig control Powering the K3 on and off is an issue. This becomes a bit of a challenge. If you are willing to leave the K3 powered up this only is a problem if you suffer from a power outage. Could you expand on that a little?

Bill,
Expand on what aspect? HRD can be used for remote operation, the prior post presented a problem that cannot be cured by HRD, and that is power-on and power-off of the remote transceiver. Is that what you wanted to be expanded, or was it something else. Your post did not include the original post that you were responding to. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/16/2012 8:00 PM, W2BLC wrote: > Could you expand on that a little? > > Thanks, > > Bill W2BLC ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
HRD can turn the radio on/off depending of the rig design, the K3 is not one of them.
My other rig can do that, that's why my K3 is not in my desk anymore for remote operation. However, you can install a relay design to turn power on your K3 from the 15 pin port I think grounding pin 8 if remember right. People is been asking for this for long time, if I buy another K3 i will try and show a way. Right now enjoing Remote operation with my Iphone. Miguel Mayorga KC7IGT |
Miguel,
The K3 can be powered off by software command - send it PS0; to turn off. The K3 cannot respond to commands while it is powered off, but you can pull the Remote Power On pin to ground by some other external device (ACC pin 8) then the K3 will turn on. If the software you are using implements the PS0; command, you can turn the K3 power off. I do not know if HRD implements that command or not. 73, Don W3FPR On 1/17/2012 3:37 PM, Miguel Mayorga wrote: > HRD can turn the radio on/off depending of the rig design, the K3 is not one > of them. > > My other rig can do that, that's why my K3 is not in my desk anymore for > remote operation. > However, you can install a relay design to turn power on your K3 from the 15 > pin port I think grounding pin 8 if remember right. > > People is been asking for this for long time, if I buy another K3 i will try > and show a way. > > Right now enjoing Remote operation with my Iphone. > > Miguel Mayorga > > Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
If you are using a RemoteRIg type of remote control, you may have a
problem in turning the K3 on by remote control if there is a power failure at the remote site. At my site, I have a multi channel remote control that connects to the ACC pin 8, so I can turn it on from anywhere. However, I have another site that I am looking at putting a K3 at (I haven't run out of excuses yet!) At that site, I am going to have a simple SPDT 12 vdc relay, with the coil connected to the accessory 12 vdc jack on the back of the K3. This is powered by the K3 on/off circuit. Then tie the comman contact of this relay to your incoming PTT control lead (coming from the RemoteRig box if you would). Tie the normally closed contact to the pin 8 of the ACC jack. Tie the normally open contact to your K3 PTT lead. Now, if the K3 is off, the relay is relaxed, and when you key your local mic at home, the PTT signal will trigger the K3 on circuit. The relay pulls in, and the PTT lead now controls the K3. tom k8tb On 1/17/2012 4:26 PM, Don Wilhelm wrote: > Miguel, > > The K3 can be powered off by software command - send it PS0; to turn > off. In other words: I operate from home at my desk only - therefore, if I
manually turn the K3 on and then start HRD and shut HRD down then turn K3 off will work FB? Simple station here - no remote operation, paper log, no digital, no rotor, and I mail QSLs with a stamp.
