Subject: [Elecraft] K2 A to B mod

Hello all.
I'm still playing with my K2 that was first purchased in 1999 and never assembled.  I'm trying to put it together with the noise blanker option and the ssb option as well as a complete "A" to "B" mod.
I've run into a problem with a method to mount "L33", the BFO toroid.  It uses a "rubber stem bumper" which is not included in the mod kit.  Has anyone used any other method of mounting this part?
Thanks.
John.

Also I'm missing the part "SMT1B".

John,

You are apparently building from the new manual and that can cause some
discrepancy in the parts.

You should have the BFOMDKT in your assortment of kits, and there
*should* be a rubber stem bumper in that package.  If not, do you have
the KAT2 option?  There are several of the stem bumpers in that option
kit - use one of those and drop a note to [hidden email] asking for
a replacement.
I would delay mounting the BFO coil until you have the stem bumper in
hand.  You *could* use any thin insulating material like double sided
foam tape, but I believe the proper stem bumper will do a better job of
holding the BFO coil mechanically because the stem part in the center of
the BFO coil holds it tight - Hint, when soldering the high value
resistor (R116), pull the leads tight, then solder the resistor leads to
the board and the thin wires to the resistor leads - when you are
finished, push the resistor body down into the center of the BFO coil to
tighten the leads more and secure the coil better.

SMT1B is a pin diode that is normally included with the Keying Waveshape
mod kit.  It may be a glass diode rather than the SMT board.  The new
build K2s are using the SMT board mounted diode while the mod kits may
still contain the leaded diode.  They are equivalent except for the
package form factor.
