RTV stands for "Room Temperature Vuclanizing" ...
It "dries" by absorbing moisture. If you want to speed
is curing process place a wet rag or paper towell over the
stuff.
The acetic acid smelling stuff is corrosive. The stuff that
smells like back-rub isn't.
I have four solar panels (12A) attached to the (metal) roof
of our RV with RTV. The roof would tear before the RTV
would release.
NAPA sells a particularily strong version as gasket material.
It's blue ... and is the corrisive type. That's OK -IF- your
job's area can outgas (cure) to air. Don't use it in an enclosed
area.
