High current reading

Stephen W. Kercel
Elecrafters:

I has a strange occurrence with my K2/100.

I was running at 10 watts CW on 3596 kHz into an antenna with low
SWR, about 1.1:1.

A very short instant after switching the VFO mode from split to
normal, I got a "High Current" reading. It only lasted for one dot.

Any ideas what might cause this?

Re: High current reading

I too see the occasional "High Current" reading at the beginning of a
transmission. Switching to the "Voltage/Current" display shows current well
under the current limit setting.

Looks like I am currently having problems with RF getting into my DC power
system. I suspect that this might be the cause of the "High Current" reading
blips.

FWIW I have seen the same thing when running my K2/100 into a dummy load
connected to Ant 2 of my KAT100, usually during a "transmission" of dits or
voice modulated SSB. Could the cause be RF *inside* the K2/100's enclosure
getting into the K2's digital circuits?

Very interesting possibility.
