Originating in Eastern Europe, this heirloom garlic type produces medium to large-sized bulbs that are further covered in eye-catching purple-striped and vividly scarlet skins. Full-bodied, easily removed cloves that are grouped around a robust core stem define the bulbs.
Red chesnok garlic is highly prized for its roasting properties, which produce a creamy and richly flavoured product that maintains its distinctive pungency. It is also renowned for its complex and slightly sweet taste, which has a mild pungency. In the summer, it also produces wonderful garlic scapes.
