After many years dealing with Elecraft I have become used to superb customer service. I have built more than 260 K2's, and I mean they have really gone overboard in support. I just ordered a de-soldering tip from a company, and through my error I received 6 tips! I really needed only 2. They not only asked that I return the other 4 tips, but they trusted me, and only charged my credit card with the 2. They were always pleasant and really helpful. I asked if they normally handled small orders, and they said no, but they were happy to do so. There site is: WWW.practicaltools.com Take a look if you need some small tools or parts. 73 Alan _________________________________________________________________ HotmailĀ® is up to 70% faster. I guess this is only loosely related to Elecraft equipment because I'm using a K2. My apologoes for dragging things off course. I'm planning on operating in the BARTG RTTY contest for a few hours this weekend with my K2. I will use a MicroHAM CW Keyer as the interface for rig control and a SignaLink USB as the audio interface. I'll be running N1MM and MMTTY software. Both interface boxes are capable of controlling PTT on the K2 (the CW Keyer via the I?O port and the SignaLink via the mic connector), but it makes sense to allow only one of them to do so. The question is, which one should be allowed to? My first inclination is to let the microHAM do it because it's a "rig control" function. Does that make sense or does it really matter? Ken,
Have you removed the Elecraft name from your K2? :-) The last time I looked at mine, it was clearly marked as Elecraft equipment. Sorry, but I don't use the interfaces you asked about, so someone else will have to answer your real question. 73, Don W3FPR Ken Alexander wrote: > I guess this is only loosely related to Elecraft equipment because I'm using a K2. It doesn't really matter. The easiest configuration is probably just to let the SignaLink USB generate PTT when it makes AFSK audio ("digital VOX"). You will be connecting audio into the K2 mic jack anyway and that's probably more reliable that PTT by software command. > -----Original Message----- > From: [hidden email] > [mailto:[hidden email]] On Behalf Of Ken Alexander > Sent: Saturday, March 21, 2009 11:16 AM > To: Elecraft > Subject: [Elecraft] How to PTT > > > > I guess this is only loosely related to Elecraft equipment > because I'm using a K2. Ha ha! No, it's just that with all the interfaces and other hardware involved the K2 was the least of my worries. This is an interfacing issue. It's just that with the sheer brain power hanging around this reflector the odds of getting a quick and helpful reply are higher than most other reflectors...for example, the same question posted on the RTTY reflector hours earlier has netted no replies. But they're probably all busy contesting! 73 - Ken --- On Sat, 3/21/09, Don Wilhelm <[hidden email]> wrote: > From: Don Wilhelm <[hidden email]> > Subject: Re: [Elecraft] How to PTT > To: [hidden email] > Cc: "Elecraft" <[hidden email]> > Received: Saturday, March 21, 2009, 6:35 PM > Ken, > > Have you removed the Elecraft name from your K2? :-) The > last time I looked at mine, it was clearly marked as > Elecraft equipment. > > Sorry, but I don't use the interfaces you asked about, > so someone else will have to answer your real question. > > 73, > Don W3FPR > > Ken Alexander wrote: > > I guess this is only loosely related to Elecraft > equipment because I'm using a K2. Thank you Joe, At one point I had both of them controlling PTT but now it's just the SignaLink as you suggest. It took me a while to figure out (I really should get on the air more often) but I'll be ready for 'em tomorrow!
