I am a radio broadcast engineer (for, um, some 3 decades now), and
one of the people on one of the broadcast engineering forums has secured permission to post a copy of a study on ground systems done in 1957. This is good reading, and will help fuel the fire of antenna debating in ham radio! The direct link is : http://rfry.org/Software%20Download/Ground%20Systems%20-%20Brown,%20Lewis%20and%20Epstein%201937.pdf (watch the wrap) And the mans web site with the link is: http://rfry.org/Software%20&%20Misc%20Papers.htm 73, de tom K8TB K2 3206 es K2 5050 p.s., this is a copy of RF's email (Thats Richard Fry!) ************** After some "back and forth," IEEE just gave me permission to post the benchmark 1937 paper by Brown, Lewis and Epstein about MW ground systems. Quite a few on RT and BC asked me earlier for this, but I had to hold off until it was possible. Now I hope all those who asked will see this posting eventually, and view/download it from the link below. There are some restrictions on its use, as shown in the file. The file is about 3.3 megs, so a fast connection will help. http://rfry.org/Software%20&%20Misc%20Papers.htm RF _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I just sold my Disney 25 year service award (Tinkerbell statue) on E-bay and
bought myself new studded snow tires and a K1-4 with the loot. I've been reading the manual for the K1....I don't see mention of auto-sensing of the paddle as in the K2. If I connect the dit and dah lines together and connect a straight key to ground will the K1 say "Ah..you have connected a straight key!" or will it "Di-dah-di-dah-di-dah" whenever the straight key is pressed? The K1 should arrive next week. I see a lot of mods got incorporated into
production K2's (AGC thump, NB audio and 100K pot linearity mod). There is mention of shortening the AGC response time by swapping a 1.0uf for the original 2.2uf. Did that mod make it to the current production units as well? Thanks! However, the K1 quick reference card on Elecraft's site at http://www.elecraft.com/K1/K1quick.pdf has for several YEARS contained several errors, one of which being that it lists these functions for the K1 keyer. (The other error is that it shows "NB1" and "NB2" for the noise blanker functions, rather than the correct "HI" and "LO" that actually appears in the display.) 73, Mike / KK5F _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I know of no one who has been sorry he made this simple AGC mod. Fast AGC is generally preferred for CW mode by most operators. It's always struck me as odd that the stock K1, as a CW-only rig, has such slow AGC. I'd recommend that you build your K1 with 1 uF at RF-C31, rather than mess with the 2.2 uF value. 73, Mike / KK5F _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
