HC5 element change

Jim Leder (Hotmail)
 Some years back, someone gave me an older Heil Proset with the HC5 element. It needed some serious maintenance, but after exchanging the cable and adding new earmuffs, it's now up to par. I also have a newer Proset that has the HC4 element. This is the one I have been using. Both can be connected to my K3 on the front via the AD1K cable. I prefer the front over the back of the K3 connections. Since I have two Prosets, I am thinking of changing the HC5 element in the older Proset with a W2ENY replacement element. Inexpensive way to 'upgrade' the Proset, since the HC6, as far as I know, isn't available on it's own. Has anyone made this 'upgrade'? Should it work as advertised in my case? Anything I should look out for?

BTW, I looked at the CM500, and while it appears to be a nice boom headset, I don't need another headset hanging in my closet.

Happy Holidays from frozen Ohio!!!

Why spend $25 for the W2ENY element when you can do the same thing
for $3 - $4 at your nearest Radio Shack?  See:
   http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062216
   http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062215

*Any* electret element is going to be a "high fidelity" element using
the W2ENY definition.  None have any inherent frequency shaping ...
The W2ENY instructions for butchering (er, "upgrading") the D-104 are
on-line
<http://members.bellatlantic.net/~vze3rys4/D104UpgradeKit/instructions.pdf>
and can be applied to almost any dynamic to
electret conversion.
