Dave,
I use one (Hakko 936), I build a lot of Elecraft gear for other folks, I do some personal SMD work, I do a bit of experimenting (usually Manhatten style) - hardly a day goes by without it being turned on. It has served me well through over 1 pound of solder in less than a year, it is comfortable in my hand, it heats quickly and controls tightly - what more can I say, other than I am pleased with it. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Any opinions about the model 936 Hakko soldering station...any better > recommendations? > > Thanks, > > Dave, K4TO > _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. That is the one I got when I got my Elecraft kit just over one year
ago. Nice to have a good quality soldering station (here at home, of course we have several nice ones at work). Get a variety of tips for it. I don't recommend the smallest and sharpest tip though (sorry I don't know the number). Maybe it will come in handy someday but it seems too small even for any of the SMD parts I've had to do on other projects. I have a medium sized conical tip and a slightly larger chisle tip that works great for PL-259 connectors and larger wires. I've had the Hakko 936 for almost a year. I've built a QRP K2 with all
options, four transverters and many smaller kits. I'm still using the tip that came with it. It heats up fast, has great temperature control, light weight pen, fits my hand well, has a flexible cord that is long enough to 'reach' awkward places. Great unit. Dave K4TO asked:
Any opinions about the model 936 Hakko soldering station...any better recommendations? -------------------------------- It's a great soldering station. I've had one for several years. I especially like being able to adjust the temperature with a knob on the front panel. Lots of heat output: comes up to full temperature from cold very fast and the temp remains constant in spite of the soldering activity. The only real competition I know of are the Wellers. After using it for a few years I'll take the Hakko over a Weller any day. I'm a diehard Weller user and I agree - I think the Hakkos are a good
increment better - they've taken the basic functionality of the Weller and refined it, the handpiece is smaller, etc., and they're used in production work so they're good instruments. 73 de Alex NS6Y On Apr 13, 2006, at 9:29 PM, Ron D'Eau Claire wrote: > Dave K4TO asked: > > Any opinions about the model 936 Hakko soldering station...any better > recommendations? > > -------------------------------- > > It's a great soldering station. I think any Hakko is worth it, but I'll extend that to say any
soldering station costing more than $100 is worth it these days. 73 de Alex NS6Y On Apr 14, 2006, at 1:53 AM, Paul Gates, KD3JF wrote: > In fact if I went back to some folders on soldering of mine I think > you are the one who recommended that I get the Hako 936.
