Hello All-
Pardon my ignorance, but I've been using HRD with my other radios. I'm aware that the K2/100 is supported, but don't see how or where the cable would plug in to the radio. The cable I'm using for my Icoms has serial on the computer end and a 1/8" mono plug on the radio end. What kind of cable is needed? Obviously serial on the computer end. A part number (Mouser, RS, Digikey, etc.) would be most appreciated. Jeff,
Do NOT use a standard serial cable - you risk damage to your K2. Only 3 RS-232 lines are to be connected to the K2 - TXD, RXD and signal ground. That being said, look in your KPA100 manual and construct the computer connection cable described there in Figure 41 on page 55. the K2 end connects to the AUX IO connector on the back of your KPA100 and of course the other end connects to a serial port. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > Pardon my ignorance, but I've been using HRD with my other radios. > > I'm aware that the K2/100 is supported, but don't see how or where > the cable would plug in to the radio. > The cable I'm using for my Icoms has serial on the computer end and a > 1/8" mono plug on the radio end. > > What kind of cable is needed? While the topic is on HRD, I wouldlike to voice a question I have got on my
mind for a long time: I have been thinking of going into digital modes, especially RTTY and PSK31. I have got no experience in ANY digital mode so far and I have been a Mac only person all these years. Deciding to go into the digital field, I had to buy a WinTel laptop in the end, since the Mac SW I could find to work on my historical Macs (newest of which is a G3/300 beige running 8.6) were practically useless. Anyway, I did some research on freeware/shareware software available for WinTels that would also do logging for me. The initial list I came up with consisted of Omni-Rig, XMLog, WinLog32, CT, N1MM, HRD, KC4ELO, EI5DI, UCXLog, MM-Hamsoft and MixW. Going through their websites for their specifications I decided to chose either N1MM or HRD. Both seem to do PSK31 and logging without an external TNC. Both seem to do RTTY via MM-HamSoft's MMTTY Engine. Both seem to be able to control K2s. However, I would love to hear some first hand experience on the pros and cons of either (or any other SW that you would suggest). 73! de TA2RX ---------------------------------- Bekir Kemal Ataman ArchiMac BBS Sysop & Webmaster <http://www.archimac.org/> _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I've been very happy with MixW and K2.

I have used a lot of different ones, but currently stick with these 2:
1. The DX Lab suites of programs that inter operate; digital, logging, spotting, etc. 2. MixW which covers more digital modes, but is not free. Both work very well. 73 and good luck with your choices. Thanks to all who responded. Here is a summary of responses:
MixW seems to be THE solution suggested unanonymously. Ham Radio Deluxe is suggested to coexist with MixW. DXLab SW Suite is another suggestion for an alternative. I'll give them a try but it will take some time since I am an absolute beginner in digital modes. See you in digital modes, too. 73! de TA2RX ---------------------------------- Bekir Kemal Ataman ArchiMac BBS Sysop & Webmaster <http://www.archimac.org/> _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list.
