Is anybody using a Heil Goldline with the HC-4 and 5 elements with their K3.
If so is it working well? 73 Larry K1ZW ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
Larry, yes. It is the best TX audio combination I've come across.
Narrow setting has a tremendous "presence" and wide almost sounds like hi fi. 73, matt W6NIA K3 #24 On Sun, 27 Mar 2011 20:08:39 -0400, you wrote: >Is anybody using a Heil Goldline with the HC-4 and 5 elements with their K3. >If so is it working well? > >73 Larry K1ZW >______________________________________________________________ >Elecraft mailing list >Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft >Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm >Post: mailto:[hidden email] > >This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net >Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Yes, and Yes. I leave it in 5 most of the time. When working Europe last
fall on 75 I did switch to 4 and increased compression while running 1500 watts. That did the trick. At the time and band conditions it was quite the trick. Hi Larry,
Yes, I have the Goldline with the HC5 element. I generally leave the switch in the wide position. I found that using the default transmit equalization settings on the K3 resulted in too much bass with my voice. I used the K3 transmit equalization settings to reduce the bass until I found a setting that sounded good. I used the K3 monitor and fed audio to my computer at various equalization settings. Then I listened on the station speaker to determine the setting I liked best. I also use a boomset that needs different equalization settings so I created macros to set the equalization, mic gain, and compression for each mic, then assigned the macros to front panel buttons. 73, Robert N9EF > Is anybody using a Heil Goldline with the HC-4 and 5 elements with their K3. > If so is it working well? > > 73 Larry K1ZW ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |

Unless Heil has changed their lineup, the Goldline does not have an HC-4 and
an HC-5 element. This cartridge lineup is in the HM-10 Dual mic, generally a little cheaper than the Goldline. The Goldlines are listed as GM-4 or GM-5 or lately the GM-5.1. These mics have a very wide studio like cartridge deep inside the handle, and either an HC-4 or 5 element at the end under the Ball screen. The "Wide" setting uses the studio element and the "Narrow" uses the HC-4 or 5, whichever the mic was supplied with. I have several friends with GM-5 mics and they always sound real nice. On the wide setting, the sound is incredible. The mic sounds very different with the HC-5 element. I don't think I know of anyone with a GM-4 with the "Narrow" so called "Dream Machine" element. I have an HM-10 Dual and like it very much. I get consistent "Great Audio" reports but admit I use the HC-5 "Wide" element most of the time. The "Narrow" HC-4 is too harsh for my taste. But it can be useful for busting those pile-ups on rare DX stations. I don't think you'll be unhappy with the Goldline, but I'd recommend the GM-5 as it is much nicer sounding. ...bill nr4c -----Original Message----- From: Larry [mailto:[hidden email]] Subject: [Elecraft] Heil Goldline Is anybody using a Heil Goldline with the HC-4 and 5 elements with their K3.
