Heil HC4 Element - Audio Increase - K2

Sara, VU3RSB - India
Hi Friends

Need a help for my Elecraft k2 SL No:2569. I have recently converted my HC4 - Head set in a Microphone with Sewing Machine paddle as Foot Switch.

Connected Audio - 1 PTT - 2 and 7 & 8 as Ground in the 8-Pin DIN Connector. HC4 is giving low audio. When i compare with Dynamic Microphone is giving good result (Yaesu MH-31 Converted for K2). HC4 is not giving the good output audio. I remember frank, DL4KQ gave me the modification document which i lost. Can any one guide me on the modification of Resistor to increase level of audio for HC4.

With Diagram and modifications would helpful to fix the problem.

See you soon from IOTA.

Regards
Sara, VU3RSB

Sara,

I just answered the same question (or similar) for another ham on the
reflector earlier this evening.  See the following:

Robert,

If you are not certain of the filter alignment for SSB FL1 = OP1, then
that is the very first thing to do.  No other changes will be effective
if the filters/BFOs are not set correctly.

If you have a low output microphone, I suggest you try changing the R14
resistor first because that is easy to do and many have found it adequate.

A microphone preamplifier would be my second choice, mounted either
externally or between the K2 front panel and control board (builder's
choice).

As a good 3rd alternative, add the KI6WX Increased SSB RF Gain Mod to
the KSB2.  If you choose this mod, be aware that with the KPA100, you
must also make modifications to the KSB2 ALC area.  Download the
document at Tom Hammond's website www.n0ss.net related to this mod so
you have the documentation for both the original mod and the ALC changes.
