Paul,
The K3 has a full array of controls for using most any microphone
element. There is a wide range mic level control with both high and low
ranges, and you may select to have bias turned on or off as the mic
requires. In addition, you may use either the front (8 pin) microphone
jack, or the rear panel 3.5mm stereo jack (the microphone is monaural,
but use a stereo plug anyway - the jack is stereo.
The only limitation is that for the front panel jack, the plug must
conform to the Elecraft pinout - it is Kenwood compatible - which says
that most, but all Kenwood wired mics will work, the exception being
that those who depend on +8 volts at pin 5 will have trouble, Elecraft
places +8 volts on pin 6 instead of pin 5.
So bottom line is that you can use most any microphone sucessfully with
the K3 as long as the mic plug is wired correctly.
