Hello all,
New K3 build 5068 on the bench, trying to get it working with my Macbook Air. I spent the bulk of the afternoon trying to get this working before asking for help on the list, couldn't find anything on the Elecraft reflector or on the Internet which was directly helpful. Could someone contact me directly email and help walk me through getting this working, [hidden email]. I would much appreciate it. Here are the "working conditions": Rig Elecraft K3 Computer Apple Macbook Air - two USB ports Interface USB to 9Pin adaptor from Elecraft Have tried both the OEM and Elecraft download software from the Elecraft site in an attempt to get this working with the Elecraft K3 Utility. Software Elecraft K3 Utility Problem The Elecraft K3 Utility does not recognize the Serial Port, and I am confused as to exactly set it up. The adaptor is installed, the software installed, but no option of a serial port shows up in the Elecraft K3 Utility. The USB/9Pin adaptor shows up in the Mac System Profiler, see below FT232R USB UART: Product ID: 0x6001 Vendor ID: 0x0403 (Future Technology Devices International Limited) Version: 6.00 Serial Number: A8003Tz4 Speed: Up to 12 Mb/sec Manufacturer: FTDI Location ID: 0x04100000 Current Available (mA): 500 Current Required (mA): 90 Assistance Needed I need to understand how to make the K3 Utility recognize and use the port reference above so I can control and update the K3 firmware. Thanks! Cordially, Bruce J. Within 10 minutes of my post Bill K1GQ nailed it, the drivers from the Elecraft site
are NOT correct for the newer chip set used on the KUSB cable. I downloaded the correct driver from the site Bill suggested, and things just worked! Just 100% delighted how quickly and well the K3 Utility works. The site for the FTDI chip is located at http://www.ftdichip.com/Drivers/VCP.htm Even more delighted with the prompt and accurate help provided by K1GQ on the problem, hope this saves someone else from this problem. So, if you've having an issue with the KUSB on the Mac, perhaps even the PC - I can only speak with the Mac, use the Mac System Profiler to determine which chipset your USB to Serial Adaptor is using, make sure you get the right driver. Have a great evening all! Cordially, Bruce J. Bruce - I have been with this issue for close to a year. Parallel with
your post I believe I have I finally have the solution. Hard to believe the Elecraft website does not reflect the fix.
