Help with Feedback or Radio Noise ?? with my K3

Irwin KD3TB
I am trying to find and resolve the source of speaker/headset noise I am
getting with my K3. The noise sounds like a continuous fan noise in the
background. I think the noise is showing up in the Monitor circuitry ? Any
suggestions would be appreciated.

I discovered a high noise level  coming from the K3 when I key the
transmitter in SSB.  I am not sure if it was there before, as I rarely use
the Monitor function. It occurs with/without any headset connected (appears
in the radio speakers too) and with/without any microphone connected.  I
have also tried a  number of different microphones and headsets.  I get the
noise in both Test Mode or Normal transmit mode. I also get the noise when I
transmit into a dummy load.   I am using a Monitor Level of around 8 to hear
the noise. Obviously it gets loader with a higher Monitor settings.

Here are my settings and what I have tried so far:

MIC SEL  - High or Low makes no difference; Bias on or off (should be off
for my microphones) makes no difference.

TX GATE - On or Off and tried different settings - No difference, I even
hear the noise at a setting of 25.   I have set it to On with a setting at
09

No difference with Pre-Amp or Noise Blank on or off.

I have played around with the MIC and COMP setting with no Mic connected. As
I raise the MIC and COMP settings, the noise gets louder.

Finally I set the radio to:

MIC - set to 20

COMP - set to 20

I have the latest Firmware with both my K3 and P3. The K3IO Buffer Kit Mod
for the P3 was done.

Any suggestions on setting(s) that I may be missing would be appreciated.

Thank you, Irwin KD3TB

Re: Help with Feedback or Radio Noise ?? with my K3

Irwin KD3TB
I thank everyone for their suggestions regarding the Line in settings. I
have tried the following and still find the back ground noise Monitor on SSB
(Microphone disconnected).

MIC SEL - rFL, fPL and Line In settings - still hear fan noise on keying
MIC+LIN - On or Off makes no difference.

I even pulled the Lin in and Lin out plugs to the K3 - still hear fan noise
on keying.

I do not think it is coming from the Lin In plug? A future firmware option
maybe to turn off the Lin in when keying the mic even though this would not
solve my problem.

Please keep the suggestions coming.

Thanks, Irwin - KD3TB

If you tap on the cabinet do you hear it in the headphones?

I wonder if you have something microphonic in the rig, like a ceramic capacitor or something else.
