I just tried Part III 40m alignment. When I tried TUNE I got a message that
said HIGH CURR, very tiny output and the current went 1.5 amps on lowest setting. The finals heated up pretty quickly also. Can someone point me in the right direction? Thanks! _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. Subscriber Info (Addr. Bill,
Hi Cur combined with low output is usually associated with a problem in the Low Pass filter area. Check carefully for properly tinned and soldered toroid leads, correct number of turns on the toroids, and correct capacitor values. You could actually have a problem anywhere between the PA transistor collectors and the antenna jack. Look at the schematic to locate the components that may be suspect, and be certain they are all properly soldered. Continuity checks from one component to another are helpful because everything in this area appears to be 'grounded' with your ohmmeter. It is grounded for DC, but certainly not for RF (unless you have a solder bridge somewhere. If I had to guess, I would say that you will find your problem to be either unsoldered/poorly soldered connections or a solder bridge in the vicinity of the PA transistor output and through the Low Pass Filter. T4 is a part of the suspect components. Be certain it is wound correctly and that all leads go into the correct holes. Check the bands other than 40 meters - if it is consistently a problem on all bands, look for the problem somewhere other than the Low Pass filter, but if it is OK on one band but not others, the Low Pass Filter will be found to be the source of the problem. 73, Don W3FPR > -----Original Message----- > > I just tried Part III 40m alignment.
