Gents,
I have used this SGC-235 500 watt capacity automatic ATU for more than 5 years. It is fed by a small Icom and the SGC cube amp in the back of my Landcruiser. I run an ex military whip of about 12 feet, also the normal 102 inch whip. I have used this ATU to feed dipoles on poles, to feed 40 foot verticals and also long wires. It has done everything always without a complaint. If you demand Elecraft re-invent the wheel than perhaps they will. However it is certainly not necessary for them to do so. This ATU is all you need no matter what you want to feed and it will handle the new amp. I will prove that as soon as my new amp arrives. But keep in mind those of you with little experience, 500 watts out of 1 amp is no different than 500 watts out of another. You can also control the SG235 remotely by sending 12 volts up the coax to it and they have the small little isolaters to help with that. Have a look and lets put this thread to rest. 73, N2WL Bill http://www.sgcworld.com/235ProductPage.html ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
How does it work on 6 meters?

I've used a friend's SGC-230 in a mobile installation and been quite
impressed with it. However, I'm not so impressed by the specs of the SGC-235. If I read them right, it's good for 500 watts only on SSB, for other modes it is only good for 200 watts and it does not cover 6m at all. I want to be able to run things like CW and RTTY at more than 200 watts (especially helpful for RTTY) so the SGC-235 just does not cut it. I assume the upcoming KAT-500 will not have such limitations. 73 Nels K1UR On 4/12/2011 4:08 PM, William Levy wrote: > Gents, > > I have used this SGC-235 500 watt capacity automatic ATU for more than 5 > years. It doesn't.

Bob,
You are correct. I do need some power for 6m DX. I am now struggling to decide between KPA500+KAT500 and SPE Expert 1Ka. For variety of reasons in my operation, I need an ATU. KAT500 will handle 500w at large SWRs up through 6M. It looks likely it
will even handle 3:1 at 1500W. It also will seamlessly integrate with the K3 and KPA500, plus work with other rigs. Stay tuned! 73, Eric On 4/13/2011 6:06 AM, Johnny Siu wrote: > Bob, > > You are correct. I do need some power for 6m DX.
