High current on 20 meters

NZ0T
My K2/100 flashes the High Current warning on 20 meters.  This is the only
band it happens on.  The current is 3.98 and power 97 watts, much higher
current and lower power than all other bands.  Do I need to re-align C21 and
C23 or could there be something else wrong?  Could the problem be a
mis-alignment of R26 and R27 in the KPA100?  Again, 20 meters is the only
band affected.  All other bands are no higher than 3.00.   I'm using an
Astron RS20-A power supply.

Thanks and 73,

Bill NZ0T

RE: High current on 20 meters

Bill,

How old is your KPA100?  Has it been working properly before?  Or is this a
newly built KPA100.

If your KPA100 is from last summer's vintage, you may need to replace R19
and R20 in the KPA100 - at one time there was a batch of resistors that were
inductive and caused exactly this problem (it also occurred on 17 meters or
both bands).

If this is a new build KPA100, remove the KPA100 and measure the transmit
current draw (tap DISPLAY) on 20 meters with the base K2 set to 14 watts -
compare that current with the current draw on 30 meters and on 17 meters.
If the current draw on 20 meters is significantly higher than on the other
bands, check the base K2 Low pass filter for the correct number of toroid
turns and correct capacitors.
