'Horrible' Rubber Bulb desoldering tool

David C Dawson-2
I have found that my awful old rubber bulb desoldering tool is in fact
somewhat useful.

The trick is to heat a pin on one side of the board and use the tool on
the other side. I realize it may not work very well on ICs, but I managed
to free a toroidal transformer by this method. I'm not saying that the
rubber bulb is the best thing since sliced bread, but it isn't useless,
either.

The trouble with this country is that there are too many politicians
who believe, with a conviction based on experience, that you can fool
all of the people all of the time.

Ha, ha!! A spring-loaded solder sucker works especially well that way too. I
do that whenever I can: heat the pad on the component side and put the
sucker on the pad on the opposite side.

One crafty fellow, perhaps it was Don, W3FPR, mentioned cutting a notch in
the tip of his spring-loaded sucker so he could put it OVER the iron and
make a decent seal to the pad working from the same side of the board. That
sounded like a FB idea too.
