I was delighted to receive my K3 s/n 138 here in the Land of the Long White
Cloud recently. Here are some notes for anyone else in ZL who is waiting for their shipment to clear NZ Customs. The K3 was shipped from Aptos on Dec 5th and arrived into Customs here 2 days later. I was tracking its progress thru the USPS website. There was no progress. Having phoned and been informed that I would receive a letter giving me details of tax to pay I waited, but there was no letter. I finally phoned NZ Post who gave me a number in NZ Customs to call. They denied all responsibility for clearing the shipment and said it was the responsibility of NZ Post. Back to NZ post who were surprisingly helpful, told me that this happens all the time, Customs deny all responsibility etc. After some time on the phone from a really helpful customer service rep he gave me an Entry Number which is the one piece of information you really need, plus a customs phone number to call. Within 3 minutes I had given them my credit card number to pay the tax, they had cleared the package and it arrived the next day, 14 days after arriving in the country. For all other ZLs patiently waiting out there I hope this is of some help. Now for the best part. I don't understand this...
It is widely commented that NZ is what England was like 30 years ago, however it sounds like your Bureaucracy has already caught up with ours ! 73 Stewart G3RXQ On Thu, 27 Dec 2007 22:40:06 +1300, Phil Holliday wrote: > I was delighted to receive my K3 s/n 138 here in the Land of the Long White > Cloud recently. Hi all,
Phils, comments are only partially correct. Normally NZ Post will send a letter saying a parcel has arrived and how to pay for any GST. However the best way is to have an account with a Customs agent or with UPS and or Fedex and then there are no problems at all. For example I had a parcel from M2 yesterday that came Fedex, they cleared it, and sent it on by courier. Bureacracy doesn't get involved. Hi Phil,
I am pleased to report that I had no problems at all getting my K3 /100 kit thru NZ Customs. I got a letter in the post, rang the enclosed phone# to pay NZ$381 GST etc and had it on my desk at the saltmine the next morning. The hardest part was looking at it all day at work!!. It went together a treat and works well. Be VERY carefull to completely read and understand the construction manual as I had a problem setting up and callibrating the rig but after a cople of emails to the helpful folk at Aptos all is well. Enjoy the rig and give us shout if you need help or want a K3 to K3 qso!! Cheers for now and HNY Peter ZL1PWD K3#139
