I survived Dayton!

Doug Shields-2
Hello all,
Just got home from a superb weekend at the Dayton Hamvention.  There was
some interest in the new Icom 7700.  However, on the Icom reflector there
are already dozens of gripes that it does not have a dual watch receiver -
and it is expected to cost over $6000.  Hey Icom folks, come look at the K3!
I tried to spend as much time as possible near Wayne so I could listen
in as he explained the K3.  I was still learning incredible new features
when I had to leave the booth to head home.  The K3 is incredible.  I can
not imagine how many thousands of hours went into the design of this radio.
Did I say it is incredible?  I noticed a number of people from other
manufacturers slowly walking past the Elecraft booth and listening to the
buzz about the K3.  Must have been humbling.
At times on Friday, there were people five deep trying to get a look at
one of the four K3s on display.  Eric was in a bit of a panic Friday
afternoon when it became clear that the huge stack of K3 information sheets
and order forms would be gone very quickly.  The K3 order forms were coming
in at an amazing rate.
There was supposed to be an announcement at the DX forum that a major
DXpedition would be taking only K3s on the trip.  I never did hear where or
when the DXpedition would be going.  But with all the features in a compact,
8 pound package the K3 will certainly become a favorite for many
expeditions.
And the T-shirts are great.  I headed to Dayton thinking that my 756
ProII would be sold soon and replaced with a K3.  "My other rig is... For
Sale."  Hit it exactly.  I hope everyone else had as much fun as I had.
Will do it again next year!
