I thought Elecraft was a household name!

The former wants simple, less features, the later wants more."

There is a third "emerging" group:  The weak-signal enthusiast,
whether that is in the form of VHF/mw, eme or even LFer.  The FT-817
took over the interest of the microwave operators a decade ago and I
estimate 80% bought one.  I predict when the KX3 is "discovered" it
will be replacing the FT-817's in a big way.  I estimate about 1,000
mw operators in the world.  You think Elecraft would enjoy 800 extra
KX3 orders over the next two years?  I'm talking orders beyond the
existing groups Gil mentions.

My demo was lightly attended, yesterday.  But the hamfest numbers
were down a third from last year, as well.

N5GE-2

And the fourth kind of customers are us old geezer's that enjoy chasing DXCC
Countries and only work contests to get a new one and couldn't care less about
who won the contest.

Ham radio is a great hobby and all of us should enjoy the hobby the way we like
to.

I probably will replace the 857D in the truck with a KX3 one of these days
though...

Amen to the previous categories of Elecraft enthusiasts, but do not forget the Silent Majority of us who enjoy exploring new approaches to old opportunities.  I am susceptible to anything with a CPU, memory, and firmware/software in it.
