ICOM to KAT/KPA500 key issue resolved

kd4iz
To make a long story short: I found that some pins in the E100416 13 pin DIN
connector to RCA cable were not making a solid connection. The pins and the
metal ring-shield in the DIN are thinner than the ICOM supplied connectors.
The DIN connector did not seat properly and would wiggle, breaking contact
as placed. Apparently the HSEND line pin would not make contact at all in
the IC-7100, but would make a tenuous contact in the 7000 and 7300. Replaced
the adapter with a homebrew cable using an ICOM 13 pin pigtail and an RCA
video cable I had lying around, the DIN seat is solid and the amp and tuner
work fine on all three radios now. All things are now harmonious.

Thanks to Cody at Elecraft for his quick response to my query! Hope my
observations help another poor soul who mixes and matches his /her gear.
