Hello Good People..!
The title of this post say's it all really.. If one were going to succumb to the inevitable of the future... and include SMT WORK in the Shack in the same way we have undertaken general work with thru-hole technology... What Tools WOULD be required..? (In The Shack) To do a wide varying range of jobs that we see both NOW and possibly in the future..? I'm sure that everyone here would be VERY interested in folk's out there "ideas" ..."know-how's" ...PICTURES (hint hint !) and website links for sure... Apologies if this has been discussed previously to this depth... Just thought it an interesting Thread for everyone involved "newbie's" And "Pro's" alike.. 73's Andy GM0NWI No virus found in this outgoing message. Checked by AVG. Andy:
I have a several page section on recommended SMT assembly tools and techniques in the Z10000 buffer amplifier manual, available at http://www.cliftonlaboratories.com/Documents/Z10000%20Buffer%20Amplifier%20Assembly%20&%20Operation.pdf Jack A _______________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Post to: [hidden email] You must be a subscriber to post to the list. I have changed a few SMTs and it's not easy no matter what people tell you. I used a product called Chip Quick. Go here: http://www.chipquik.com/ Their solder melts at 135 degrees F., mixes with the original solder and makes chip removal much easier. Resoldering is the touchy part! 73 Steve Ellington [hidden email] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Andy - GM0NWI" <[hidden email]> To: "'Elecraft List'" <[hidden email]> Sent: Tuesday, June 24, 2008 4:06 PM Subject: [Elecraft] In The Ham Radio Shack SMT Work What Tools Are Required..? > Hello Good People..! > > The title of this post say's it all really.. > > If one were going to succumb to the inevitable of the future... and > include > SMT WORK in the Shack in the same way we have undertaken general work with > thru-hole technology... > > What Tools WOULD be required..? Steve,
I have used ChipQuik too. It makes getting those multi-legged critters off a lot easier. You are correct that the resoldering part can be more difficult. One must use alcohol to completely clean the area where the chip was removed or the new solder just will not stick. Put some elbow grease into it and scrub completely. Even if things look clean, there can still be enough residual to make re-soldering difficult. 73, Don W3FPR n4lq wrote: > > I have changed a few SMTs and it's not easy no matter what people tell > you.
