Install of KX3 in Truck

Keith Heimbold
I am starting the installation of my KX3 in my Silverado this weekend with a professional installer who does most of the major emergency response, police and fire vehicles in the San Diego area.

I plan to use a Hi Q type antenna and a dedicated 6m vertical. He recommended the use of a device called a Turbo Tuner in order to get proper resonance from the Hi Q antenna for HF bands.

I inquired to the gentleman who owns the company that makes the turbo tuner and he says it works with the K3. I am curious if anyone who has their KX3 installed in mobile has installed this device. Any perspective would be very welcome.

Thanks,

Keith

I am curious as to what Hi-Q antenna you are installing. Those are real nice. I have a Tarheel model 200 and now a 400 (currently installed on my '11 F350, 6.7L). I was tempted to get a Hi-Q but went with the Tarheel as I've had good luck with them and they are less $$ HI.

In any event, my understanding of the Turbo Tuner is it is RF sensing. Download the "universal" manual, it describes how it works in there.

Steve,

I am looking at the Hi-Q-3/80 RT Hi Q antenna.  I will also have a separate
vertical for 6m.  I also plan to have some small computer installed in the
truck or a small Ipad.  I am working with a guy in san diego who does all
the emergency response, Police and FD trucks and cars.  We are going for an
epic setup.  I have thrown out the budget on this one.

I will post information on my blog as we put this together.  The KX3 will be
the centerpoint of this install in my 97 Silverado.  So stoked!  Probably be
done in about 4 weeks.

Regards,

Keith
