Installing Beta firmware

k6mgo
Thanks for those who helped me ID the 4.58 Beta Firmware. Now, I can’t get it installed.

The Instructions say, “Do not check K3 Utility Box “ Copy New Files from Elecraft Server”...I didn’t

They say, “Check Versions Now”... I did.   I have the old files in a folder on desktop (Windows 7) called “K3 Firmware”.  Everything checks out, I have 4.51 installed.

I go to Browse and go to new folder with “K3 Beta” Beta 4.58 unzipped. Because Instructions say not to put the Beta file in the folder with old firmware, but open new folder on desktop and store Beta version in it.

As soon as I do that, the “Check Versions Now” shows MCU, FPF, DSP1 and DSP2 “Missing” and it greys out “Send All Firmware” and “Send New Firmware” and so I can’t get it to load the new Beta Firmware.

Anyone see what I am doing wrong?

Tnx for any help,

Bill, k6mgo

Bill,

My guess would be that you don't have the right directory.   Double check the directory name and make sure you are, in fact, at the unzipped folder.

Bill,

Unless you left something out of your steps taken, it seems that you did
not properly tell K3 Utility where to find the files.  The upper block
must contain the file location information -- if it does not, click
Browse and find the folder with the Beta files - then press Enter to
record it.

I have a folder (in a place where I can access it from any computer on
my network) labeled "K3 Betas" and under that, I create a folder for
each beta release.  Yes, I have to change the pointer in K3 Utility with
each beta version I download, but it works for me.

Not directly related to your situation, but I would like to add a bit of
general information --
One thing about Elecraft firmware that seems not to be fully understood
by some users is that each level has a unique number. When 4.58 (for
instance) moves from a beta to a release/production version, there are
no changes made to the code, other than where it lives on the Elecraft
servers.  If you have downloaded a beta version, and it later becomes a
release version, you do not have to re-load it, you already have it.
