Inverse sidebands today?

Roland Whitsitt
I'm not sure if I'm losing my mind or what's going on.  I'm hearing upper side band on 40 meters and lower side band on 20.  If this is normal then I am tripping in some alternate universe.  Or is something amiss with the k2?

Though I can't be absolutely certain, I'd bet you set your SSB filters (at
least SOME of them) up to have them centered on the WRONG SIDE of the xtal
filter center point. This will cause you to receive SSB on the wrong sideband.

Switch to 40M, then go to MENU | CAL | FIL and step thru your SSB filter
settings.

If the frequencies (or DAC values, either one) for LSB are HIGHER in value
than those for USB, you have them reversed.

Tom, THANK YOU!  I bet that's it.  I was messing with the filters today.
And I don't really have an understanding of them yet.  I thought I had put
them back to what's in the manual.  Opps
Hey, at least I know now that it's not just some bad acid trip I don't
remember taking! hi hi

Roland,

If you want additional information on setting the filters using Spectrogram,
you can find additional information on my website http://w3fpr.qrpradio.com
or the mirror at http://home.earthlink.net/~w3fpr.  Look at step 3 (Cal Fil)
of the article on K2 Dial Calibration.  There are several links to other
folks info (including Tom Hammond's).

Perhaps it will help with your understand of what the process is - if you
have ever dealt with a receiver with a BFO frequency knob, you should grasp
the principle easily - what you are actually doing is adjusting the BFO
frequency so the filter passband produces the audio spectrum (i.e. for voice
from 300 Hz to about 2600 Hz) that produces the best 'fidelity' on the
signal.

A good diagnostic suggestion, especially for those of us members of the
Second Class Operators Club.  I immediately put tape on my headphones
reminding me that "This one goes on the Left (the same side as the hand
you eat and write with)."  I expect my SSB contest scores to improve
immediately.
