Gentlemen,
A few days ago I was listening on my K3 on 20m (either mode/band segment) and instead of the usual "S5" noise indication on my S-meter it was only (S-1) even with the preamp on! This also occurs on 17m as well! While all the other bands show the regular/typical reading (S-5 plus or minus a smidge!) I know the my C3 yagi works on those bands because we also use a Icom 7200 (standby rig) and it's S-meter readings on ALL BANDS including 20 and 17 are NORMAL/as to be expected! Any IDEAS??? Could you have selected ANT2 or the RX ANT on 20M? The K3 remembers these by band
so it could be set wrong on 20M and correct on the other bands. ------------------------- 73, Greg - AB7R Whidbey Island WA NA-065 On Sun Jun 27 13:30 , "JIM DAVIS" sent: >Gentlemen, > >A few days ago I was listening on my K3 on 20m (either mode/band segment) and instead of the usual >"S5" noise indication on my S-meter it was only (S-1) even with the preamp on! Early on, my K3 seemed to go deaf on 30m, and the tuner couldn't find a match. Fine on all the other bands. After putting the fire out in my hair [small fire, not much hair left], I finally emailed Elecraft. After some diagnosing, Wayne emailed me for my phone number and a time to call. On schedule, the President of the company called me, we reviewed the symptoms, and he said [I can remember this like it was yesterday], "Let's start with the simple stuff. On 20, which ANT is selected?" I told him ANT1. "Now switch to 30m and tell me what you see." I was already wanting to curl up and disappear, it was ANT2 of course. One tap and I was in business. Moral: There's a lot of info on that big display, and some of the indicators are a little small. With all the per-band and per-mode memory in the gizmo, it's easy to change something, not realize it at the time, and then wonder if your radio is fried later on. 73, Fred K6DGW - Northern California Contest Club - CU in the 2010 Cal QSO Party 2-3 Oct 2010 - www.cqp.org ______________________________________________________________ Elecraft mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/elecraft Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[hidden email] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html |
