K-1 power out vs current draw.

k3hx@juno.com

Good folk,

In the planning stages for this year's field day which I plan to run QRP
from a battery.

At 12 vdc, how much power will the K-1 deliver?
What is the current draw at 12 vdc.

At 13.8 vdc, how much current does the K-1 draw to deliver 5 watts out?

How low can the voltage be and still have the unit produce a stable output?

If there is a chart which shows this kind of voltage vs power out data, I'd
be grateful for the link.

72,

Tim

According to the manual the K1 will deliver around 5W at 14V (varies between bands), and the current draw is around 55mW (without display backlight). It can be operated on a voltage between 8.5 - 15V.

Ummmm ...assuming the 55mW is a typo and it really should be 55 mA, that
sounds like the receive-only drain?  5 watts out at 14VDC input is
357 mA at 100% efficiency.  My K2 draws about 1.5A at 12.5VDC with power
set at 5W.  That's about 26% overall efficiency.  I'd expect something
"similar" for the K1 since when transmitting the majority of the loss is
in the PA's and driver.  My K2 draws around 180mA in receive-only but
then the K2 has a lot more receive circuitry than a K1.
