K-3: Best filter for SSB Contesting?

RLVZ
Hi Guys,

For SSB contesting: if your K-3 radio had the stock 2.7khz filter and you
could only select one optional roofing filter for SSB contesting, would you
select the 2.1khz or 1.8khz?

I'm mainly a CW operator and have one blank remaining for either a 2.1khz
or 1.8khz filter.

Thanks for your thoughts!

Dick- K9OM

1.8

Fake K3 into believing it's a 2.1

Sounds great for ragchewing and contesting.

Re: K-3: Best filter for SSB Contesting?

Excellant suggestion - I just moved mine from 1.8 setting to 2.0 setting a
week ago and I like it a lot better - I may try 2.1 too just to see.  Gives
me the filtering and makes it more understandable (at least for my old
damaged ears).

Also just bought a 500 (565) to go with my 250 (370).  Just changed the
250(370) setting to 400 before the last RTTY contest.  I like it a lot
better that way too (at least until I get the 500 and get it installed).

Do not hesitate: 1.8khz then with the K3 utility you modify the start point to 2.1, you will see the improvement in  strong interferences.

Re: K-3: Best filter for SSB Contesting?

Philippe Trottet
The 1.5k is out of stock and not be sure it will be availble from INRAD anymore.
http://www.inrad.net/product.php?productid=299&cat=140&page=1

Personally I have ordered the 1K as it starts at bw60= 1.650 and will program it at 1.6K to use it for both cw & ssb http://www.inrad.net/product.php?productid=156&cat=140

Some mentionned in the qth.net they have already tested this method,  who seem given good results in severe ssb interferences. Will see when the filter will be on my desk and intalled.
