K-3 Reference Calibration using WWV

Art Suberbielle

Jim,

Hadn't tried this before now, but have a P3 arriving next week so wanted to have the calibration on the K-3 correct. Using Method 2 with WWV as the frequency standard, there is a different zero beat with mode set as CW vs. mode set as CW-R. I usually operate CW-R (carry over from the Yaesu days).

When I zero beat WWV with LSB or USB mode, the zero beat is identical. Seems that should be where we're aligning the reference calibration. That point happens to be exactly in the middle of the CW vs. CW-R zero points.

Specifically, in my case the CW-R zeros at 15.001.22, CW zeros at 15.000.28. LSB and USB zeros at 15.000.72.

Important consideration for accuracy seems that we account for the pitch of the side tone that rsesults in a slight frequency change.  In my case it is 450 hz,

What do you think?

73,

Art KZ5D

Re: K-3 Reference Calibration using WWV

Richard Ferch
Art,

By any chance do you have the automatic VFO offset option selected?
(CONFIG:CW WGHT and tap 5 to switch between VFO NOR and VFO OFS)? I
haven't tried it both ways myself yet, but it strikes me that this might
possibly make a difference to the reference calibration process.
