I was having crashing problems with my HP Laptop PC running
Vista, and backing up my K-3 thru the USB to Serial adapter.
It seemed that I could perform most of the functions of
downloading updates, etc., with no problem, but when I tried to perform a backup
of the radio on the computer, the screen would go black, no blue, and then
reboot.
When the computer came back up, I would get a windows
message offering to check the problem, and it would come back and say my
Keyspan USB to Serial Adapter had caused the problem with no known solution.
After checking with Gary in tech support, and calling the
Keyspan folks, we discovered the problem and solution. I was running a
cooling fan plate off the USB port on the computer, and the current draw of the
adapter and cooling fan caused the Keyspan device to shut down…
Solution: got
a USB powered hub, and everything works great now. Gary suggested I put
this info on this site.
