Hi Wim,

There will be a dedicated 6m pre-amp soon available for the K3 (to be connected between the 'Ant in' and 'Ant out' connectors of the KXV3 option). I am not sure what the NF will be, but I think they are aiming for a value around 1 dB or better.

I have the prototype of this pre-amp and that already gives a noticeable improvement over the stock, build-in pre-amp.

Evert Bakker (PA2KW)
Wim,

If 1 dB noise figure is the aim, I would make one myself (sure better NF,
most probably cheaper).

Preamp NF 0.15 dB (MGF1302 - YU1AW design)

Hello Wim,

I look forward to seeing you on 6m EME!  I try to get on JT65A and call CQ during the
EU moonset on days when 6m EME are good (low degredation) and the moonset is also at
a convenient local time in EU.  I usually announce my activity on

http://www.on4kst.info/chat/login.php?band=7

It will definitely help if you have a preamplifier attached to the rear of your K3,
but I have completed with K3 users who did not have a preamplifer yet.  If you have
less than a dB of feedline loss, there is nothing to be gained by mounting a preamp
up on the tower.  Most 6m EME stations just keep the feedline loss low and use a good
preamp in the shack in front of the receiver.

There is a very handy EME CALCULATOR that was included in old outdated WSJT Version
4.9.8, and that is reason enough to keep that version around (plus it includes the
EME ECHO mode, which is useful for checking out your system on moonrise/moonset by
yourself).  For actual contacts on JT65A mode, however, WSJT Version 5.9.7 is the
current accepted ("non-beta") version.
