I played around during the last hour of the ARRL DX contest over the weekend. After a few Q's with my K2/100 I switched over to the K1. Bam! Bam! I was raising EU's with one call using 5W to a rotary trap dipole at 35 ft. Worked 28 countries on 40/20/15 in 35 mins. It was like riding on Space Mountain for the first time!
It dawned on me. There has always been a discussion of K1 vs K2 (apples and oranges in favor of the k2 of course) but I had the overwhelming feeling that if I could forgo the internal battery and noiseblanker in exchange for a 160-10M K1 that it could be my ONLY radio. It was that much fun! So after the 800W and 1500W amps...somewhere down the road I would love to buy and build a 160-10M K1-9 that did not require module changes. Did I say a K1-9? Maybe it should simply be called the K9? <Ruff! Ruff!> Or the Elecraft Pup?
