[K1] Head Phone Jack

WB3AAL
Hello,

I use my K1 out on the trail a lot with ear buds.

Last night I wanted to show a demo with the rig and found
that I have no audio when there are no head phones plugged
into the unit.

Did some troubleshooting today.

Seems that the contacts in the headphone jack are not making
contact when the ear buds are not plugged in to the jack.

Just wondering if anyone else experienced this problem and
what you did to correct the problem.

I will contact Elecraft on Monday and order a new jack.

72 and Thanks,
Ron Polityka

Ron,

You need a new headphone jack.  We don't hear too much about failures
with the K1, but it is not uncommon for the K2.  The switch that closes
the path to the speaker jack is a switch isolated from the contacts in
the assembly, and it operates from a plastic lever inside the jack.
Sometimes that lever breaks, leaving you with no speaker audio (or
occasionally speaker audio all the time).
Elecraft has tried (unsuccessfully) to get the manufacturer to beef up
that little lever, but so far, to no avail.
