K1 Hints & Kinks - External Powered Speakers

Art - W6KY
Have you ever wondered what to do with those small (amplified) speakers
from your old PC's?  Perfect for a K1. I was digging thru a box of computer
parts and in the process of untangling(?) cables I found a speaker on the end
of each cable.  Remember these? Either 4.5VDC, 6VDC, 9VDC or 12VDC
(best) and also run on 'C' cell batteries. Great for in the shack or portable
with the external speakers.. I hooked these up to the headphone output,
adjusted the volume on the speakers so I could still control the main volume
from the K!.. WOW!  The lil K1 speaker is great but these speakers just
brought the audio to life.  No strain on the K1 audio amp as the amplification
is done by the speaker amps.  Impedance matching is 8 ohms so no problem
there. The speakers I found are about 3"H x 2"W x 2"D...These are 12VDC so
they are just hooked up to the station 12 VDC supply when the K1 is in the
shack...

They can also let you know when there's RF in the shack (g).
