K1/K2 Filter Alignment

WA3WSJ
Hello all,

I need a visual program to align my K1 (s/n 31) and my K2 (s/n
321)filters. Can anyone provide me with info on how to get such a
program?
I know my filters in my K2 are not properly setup.

Ed, WA3WSJ

Ed,

The most widely used program is Spectrogram.  The last freeware version is
more than adequate for the job and is available for download from Tom
Hamond's website www.n0ss.net and he has several documents on how to use it.
I can email you the program if you have difficulty downloading it (send a
private request).

If you need further info on setting the K2 filters, look on my website
http://w3fpr.qrpradio.com - the article on K2 Dial Calibration, step 3 is
the CAL FIL procedure.

Hi Ed,

Be careful about using Spectrogram for the K1 alignment except (maybe) for
determining the proper BFO frequency setting (and even there it's not at all
necessary).

If you optimize the K1 filter board adjustments in receive mode and make no
further adjustments to the same components as called for later in the manual
to peak transmitter output, then you'll almost certainly have little or no
output on transmit for several bands.  The receive mode adjustments just get
things in the ballpark before making the final adjustments based on
transmitter output.  The K1 transmitter adjustments are far far more
critical than than the adjustments made to the same filters for receive
mode.
